Former oil trader Ray Bartoszek, who turned down investing in the New York Mets in July because SportsNet New York was not included in the deal, has invested in the 27-time World Champion New York Yankees, according to someone familiar with the deal.
Bartoszek purchased his piece of the Bronx Bombers from another minority investor. Although I do not know the precise amount and stake of Bartiszek’s investment in the Yankees, it is believed the transaction places an enterprise value on the team near the $1.7 billion valuation we gave the Yankees in March.
The Mets deal with hedge fund manager David Einhorn collapsed in August and owners Fred Wilpon and Saul Katz are now interested in getting several investors to chip in $10 million to $20 million each to finance the money-losing team.
